The CSU Wrestling team qualified four wrestlers to the NCWA National Wrestling Championships in Allen, TX on March 11-13: sophomore Mike Brungardt (125#), sophomore Abdelaziz “ZZ” BenQadi (165#), freshman Trevor Encinias (197#), and sophomore Andrew Gilles (235#). It was the first year wrestling for CSU for all four wrestlers. The tournament was extremely competitive and large, with each weight featuring at least 35 wrestlers. Brungardt was the standout of the tournament, going 3-2 with two pins and a forfeit, and one of his losses was to the eventual National Champion. Encinias also scored a pin, going 1-2 in his Nationals debut. BenQadi and Gilles both went 0-2 against tough competition. We are a very young team with lots of future potential.
