The Women’s Club Volleyball Team is a student led sports club that strives to provide high-level, competitive, and fun play. Tryouts are held mid-September, with 3-4 open gyms in the weeks leading up to tryouts. All interested women are encouraged to come to open gyms, get a feel for the level of play and attend tryouts. Open gyms and tryouts are held once a semester, and result in two teams, each with 8-10 women. Practices are held three times a week and take place in the South College Gym on campus.
The club plays in 4-5 regional tournaments per semester, at locations such as University of Colorado, University of Denver, Colorado Mesa, Wyoming and other universities in the region. These regional tournaments help us rank in the new State Championship Tournament during the Spring semester. The State Championship Tournament is a tournament for regional teams in Wyoming and Colorado. The teams consistently rank as 1st or 2nd in regional tournaments. In addition, in the fall semester, both teams travel to one out of state tournament, which in recent years, has been in Irvine, CA. In the spring, out of state travel includes one ranking tournament, the Las Vegas Open (over spring break) and Nationals in mid-April, in addition to in-state regional tournaments. Nationals are held by the National Collegiate Volleyball Foundation, which the CSU Women’s Club Volleyball team is an active member of. Nationals is typically held in cities such as Kansas City, MO, and Louisville, KY, and for spring 2018, in St. Louis, MO! In recent years, both teams have consistently ranked high at Nationals, with each team placing top 8 and top 16 in their respective division. In Spring 2019, our A team ranked 17th at Nations.
Outside of play time, the club regularly participates in both fundraising and volunteering opportunities a couple times each semester. They are eager for opportunities to grow as a club through volunteering. Past volunteer opportunities the club has participated in include RamRide, CSUnity, Fall Clean-Up, and meal packing with a local church. Academics are also made a priority within the team, and team members form occasional study groups to ensure that an adequate balance between play time and studies is maintained.
