The Rams consistently rank in the top 20 teams in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).  The team is a founding member of the toughest league in ACHA, the Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL). Members of the league include Arizona State, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado State, Colorado, Missouri State, Oklahoma, and Central Oklahoma. The national champion has come from the WCHL three of the past four years.

In addition to the league schedule, the team also competes against other colleges and universities across the country to complete a schedule of between 35-40 games each season.  This schedule includes between four to six road trips.  If the team qualifies, as they did for the 2016-17 season, they travel to and competes in the ACHA National Championship Tournament.

A preseason camp and open tryouts take place at the beginning of the school year–tryouts are the week before the first week of fall semester. 30 man roster. We will cut players. 38 game schedule projected season. The team typically practices three times per week in the evenings, to avoid any class conflicts.

Beyond hockey, the program provides students with an excellent opportunity for leadership, responsibility, and quality athletics that will benefit them long after they graduate. The program is student-led, and the student athletes, with the support of the CSU Campus Recreation Office, dedicated coaches, managers, athletic trainers, and interns to manage season travel, media and advertising, finances, marketing, and more. The team also works closely with the University, groups in the community, and youth hockey organizations to facilitate team events, volunteer opportunities, and fundraisers, rounding out the college hockey experience.
