The Women’s Water Polo team competes in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) every Spring. There are typically four tournaments per season, each tournament will take place over the span of a weekend. The Rocky Mountain Division consists of Colorado School of Mines, University of Denver, U.S. Air Force Academy, University of Utah, University of New Mexico, and University of Colorado. Travel team members will travel to CWPA tournaments throughout the season. Practice squad members are welcome at all practices and will have the opportunity to partake in scrimmages and spring tournaments with other teams in the area.
The Women’s Water Polo team is a brand new club that has branched out of the Men’s Water Polo Club at CSU, due to an incredible influx in women interested in playing water polo. This provided the perfect opportunity for women to not only compete in a co-ed team if they choose, but to also play in a Women’s League at the highest standard, or only play for the women’s team. Due to a high demand for pool space, practices will be held in the Moby Pool with the Men’s Water Polo Team, as many of the women play during the men’s season. As the teams will be practicing together, the women who will be playing men’s league will not have an off season, those who are only playing women’s league will have an off season during Fall. It is important to note that off season does not mean there will not be practice, but rather that there will be more leniency for missing practice, and more relaxed trainings.
We welcome any and all levels of experience to practice with the team. Tryouts will be held on the first scheduled practice of the Fall Semester, to determine which players will travel to tournaments Our team members have varying levels of experience, from those who have never played the sport before, to those who have competed internationally. Coaches and more experienced team members are always willing to help the less experienced players, in order to enhance their skills, and adopt a love for the game!
