The Rec Cares Service Committee consists of Campus Recreation professional and student staff members who dedicate their time, money, and efforts to improving the local Fort Collins community through a variety of service projects.
Three times a year, the Rec Cares Committee throws on their orange vests and gloves, grabs a garbage bag, and heads out to Shields Street just west of the Student Recreation Center to clean up the accumulated litter through the Adopt-a-Street program. Students and professional staff start at Prospect and clean both sides of Shields up to Mulberry.
Every November and December, Campus Recreation hosts Warm a Winter Wish in partnership with the Fostering Success program at CSU. Fostering Success is a CSU program that helps support students from independent backgrounds. Campus community members bring unwrapped or monetary gifts into the Student Recreation Center to help support CSU Students in need during the holiday season.
Instead of throwing out old athletic shoes, the Rec Cares Committee hosts a bin in the Student Recreation Center three times a year (at the end of each semester) for students to donate their shoes to the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program. Over 60 shoes are collected each semester, which are then taken to the donation drop-off location in Loveland, where they are used to create playground flooring.
