A Rocky Mountain Showdown on Ice

Article by Bailey McCaffrey

The Club Hockey season is RAMping up as CSU’s teams prepare to take on CU Boulder. Our Sport Clubs hockey programs consist of the Division I Men’s team, the Division II Men’s team, and the Division I Women’s team. Each of these teams will be playing the Buffs on the 12th of November, in the Pepsi Center Arena in Denver, Co. The Rocky Mountain Pepsi Center Ice Showdown is an event you do not want to miss.

This $20 ticket not only pays for all three games on Nov. 12th, but you also get a free ticket to an Avalanche (Avs) game. Everyone who purchases a ticket for the showdown will get to choose which Avs game they would like to attend over the season. By going to this game you are also supporting your team as $5 of your ticket automatically goes toward the CSU hockey program of your choosing as a donation. This is a one time opportunity to come and cheer on your fellow Rams as they take on the Buffs in a stadium suited for the pros.

We had the opportunity to speak to two Colorado State players to hear more about the season and the the upcoming big game.

Sarina Perret is a Senior on the Women’s Ice Hockey team and has proved to be a leader for the other players over the past four years. She is excited to take on the Buffs once again. Up until last year, the Rams had been successful in their efforts against Boulder. Having lost last year in a close match, Sarina and the rest of her team are ready to reclaim their place on top. This season, the team is overcoming obstacles as they play with only half a bench. Matches can be difficult for a team will a limited amount of players, but they have won multiple games this season and are improving through the process.

Yuval is a strong player on the Mens Division One team. This is his third year on the team at Colorado State and he says the best part is having a band of brothers he can always count on. This is a building season for the young team, having 12 of their players graduate last spring. The team is eager to take on our rivals and to prove their ability when it counts most.

Come support the teams by filling the Pepsi Center and getting loud. In the past, fans have filled up to 3,000 of the stadium’s seats for this event and this year they are expecting an even bigger turnout. Campus Recreation is wishing out Rams the best of luck next week and through the rest of the season!
